All 41 Concacaf nations 'reject' FIFA's controversial plan | OneFootball

All 41 member associations from Concacaf have joined UEFA in rejecting FIFA president Gianni Infantino's plan to sell stakes in the tournament to private investors.

The rejection comes after a meeting held by Concacaf on Thursday afternoon to discuss FIFA's controversial proposal.

In a statement, Concacaf said that, "during the meeting, the membership expressed deep concerns about the lack of due process surrounding the proposal, the artificially short deadline imposed, and the absence of any review or approval by the relevant FIFA governance bodies."

"In addition, the need for private equity investment to fund new and existing FIFA Forward programs following the most profitable FIFA World Cup in history was questioned."

In the statement, Concacaf rejected the proposal and asked FIFA Council Members to instruct "the FIFA President to ensure that any matter follows the proper governance processes via staff and FIFA Council."

However, unlike UEFA's decision from earlier today, there was no mention of a World Cup boycott from the 41 Concacaf nations (six of which are not part of FIFA).

FIFA's plans involve selling a significant stake in a new entity known as FIFA Forward Enterprises to take over the operation of its major events, including the World Cup and Club World Cup.

FIFA are seeking to sell a minority 21% stake in FFE, seeking to raise £3.2 billion, with money then set to be shared among member associations.

This proposal must be approved by FIFA’s 211 member associations as well as the FIFA Council.
