All change: Liverpool get timeline for Edwards, Slot and Hughes exits | OneFootball

Liverpool made big changes at the top of their structure in the wake of Jurgen Klopp leaving back in 2024.

The German was more “manager” than “head coach” with Fenway Sports Group then taking steps to divide his powers. Arne Slot took up his duties as head coach with Richard Hughes coming on board as sporting director.

Orchestrating the moves on behalf of FSG was Michael Edwards - the former Liverpool sporting director. Edwards came back into the fold as CEO of Football - with all three leaders signing contracts until 2027.

And it now appears that next year remains a definitive endpoint for Liverpool’s new leadership structure according to trusted club insider Paul Joyce in the Times.

2027 marks the end

Edwards was brought back to oversee the installation of a multi-club ownership model but those plans have been suspended indefinitely.

Slot meanwhile has had plans for a new deal put on the backburner as Hughes and Edwards assess the fallout of a poor season. And Hughes is reported to be on the radar of Al-Hilal with the Saudi Pro League club ready to slide a lucrative offer across the Scotsman’s desk.

“FSG are guided by the sporting director Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards, chief executive of football for FSG, whose own futures have become blurred as each has just over a year remaining on their contracts,” the report reads.

“Al-Hilal have targeted Hughes, but there would be surprise from some at the club if he was to leave this summer. That is not to say, however, he is at Liverpool for the long term.

“Similarly Edwards, who has been frustrated as far back as last summer by the lack of progress with regard to the purchase of a second football club for the FSG empire, does not appear likely to sign a new deal as it stands. Sources close to the ownership declined to comment.”
