Massimiliano Allegri is expected to spend the coming days in Rome to attend the Italian Open tennis tournament, but his visit to the capital could also offer Roma owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin a timely opportunity to meet one of the coaches on their shortlist.

The Giallorossi have yet to make a final decision on who will succeed Claudio Ranieri, as they continue to assess several candidates.

While Cesc Fabregas and Gian Piero Gasperini remain under consideration, Calciomercato.com reports that Allegri is seen as the club’s ‘dream’ option — a name that has been on Roma’s radar since last autumn. At the time, however, the situation was complicated by the club’s bloated coaching payroll and disappointing Serie A form.

Now, with Ranieri having revitalised Roma’s Champions League hopes, the Friedkins may feel they’re in a stronger position to attract a high-profile manager like Allegri — especially if a top-four finish is secured.

With Allegri currently in the capital and the Friedkins also expected in the city today, a meeting between the two parties cannot be ruled out, although at this stage it remains speculation.

Roma are also aware that they may face strong competition from Serie A rivals Milan and Napoli in the race to convince the former Juventus boss to take over at the Stadio Olimpico.
