Elite Development Squad defender Max Alleyne says he is enjoying his time in the squad and is happy to see the togetherness of the defensive players translate to our Premier League 2 success.

The 19-year-old is a prevalent figure in our EDS side, totalling 17 league appearances which includes 14 wins, one draw, two defeats and seven clean sheets.

Ben Wilkinson’s side have conceded just 23 goals in 20 games compared to last season’s 50.

And Alleyne was quick to attribute City’s success in our own box to the camaraderie of the team, which has developed through more playing time together.

“I think we’re just really enjoying it,” said Alleyne.

“As a defence we all play together so much and so often and we just all really enjoy playing side by side.

“When we keep the good teams out it also makes it even better and feels really rewarding because those clean sheets are often just as important as us scoring goals.”

Sealing top spot at the Premier League 2 summit means our Round of 6 fixture, to be played on the weekend of 25/26 April, will be on home soil with the date and kick-off time to be confirmed in due course.

Whilst the challenge of an away trip would push the team, Alleyne expressed his delight on getting to play at our beloved Joie Stadium in our next assignment.

“Away games can be difficult because of what we can't control, but we know the pitch is going to be good here,” explained the defender.

“Our routine here is good, the lads feel really comfortable and it means we get to continue playing in front of our fans which we look forward to.”
