Alphonso Davies will miss Canada’s March internationals after suffering a right hamstring injury during Bayern Munich’s 6-1 Champions League win at Atalanta on Tuesday. He was forced off in the last 16 first leg.

On Thursday, head coach Jesse Marsch said the left-back has withdrawn from friendlies against Iceland on 28 March and Tunisia on 1 April as Canada finalise preparations for a World Cup they will co-host with Mexico and the United States from 11 June to 19 July. "It will probably be two to three weeks before his return." He told TSN Sports.

He added: "He will probably not be with us in March, which is fine. We will likely leave him in Munich so he can regain his best form and be 100 per cent. I am confident he will get there."

The 25-year-old will be short of fitness to join the late March camp. He had only just returned after picking up an injury at the end of February.

Davies previously spent nine months out with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament suffered in March 2025. "It is not easy to come back from a long injury. We simply need to take precautions to avoid any relapse," he said.
