“”He is going to play, Altay. He is going to play.”

Speaking about the history of the competition, Amorim said:

“I see what everybody sees. It’s a really old competition with a lot of history. I remember seeing some of the finals, including when we won the Treble. At this stage, we know we have a really strong match. We want to win and to continue with our performance.”

Asked about homegrown players, Amorim said:

“The first thing, I think, I don’t remember saying that I clearly want new players. Players can come here with a different of idea how to play.

“I don’t remember saying so clearly that I want new players. We need to improve recruitment. We have to improve academy to bring young kids [though] that feel the club in the right way.

“Our idea is always to keep the best players and the players that we build for this club. But we know the position that this club is in at this moment. I really like our players, especially from our academy.”

On Kobbie Mainoo, Amorim specifically said “”I am really happy with Kobbie – he is improving.”

Amorim was then asked about his rotation policy having changed and replied:

“I think we rotated more in that part when we were trying to find out what kind of players we have. Players have returned from injury and now we are rotating less. Now we have had time to train a little bit more, I expect my team to understand a little bit better, the game. I don’t rotate because I want to rotate; I am not different from other coaches.

“At this moment, I am living day by day. We had one week without a game. It does not make sense for me to rest players now and play both games really near. We have to win and follow the last performance.

“We are in a difficult moment. We are improving, we will put out the best team to try to win. I will choose the best team to win. We want to win the cup. Sometimes it is better to win this type of game and have less time to rest. We just to win this game and then we will think about the next.”

Asked about Marcus Rashford’s future, the boss said:

“We will see, guys. We need to focus on the next game.”

The embargoed section of the press conference will be released at 10.30pm on Saturday and will be published here immediately afterwards.
