Real Madrid left-back Alvaro Carreras has been ruled out of Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 first leg against Manchester City at 21:00 after sustaining a right calf injury confirmed on Monday.
According to El Mundo Deportivo, the 22-year-old suffered a knock in training in recent days.
Alvaro Arbeloa must therefore do without his first-choice left-back. Carreras returned last summer to his boyhood club from Benfica in a €50m move and has been a mainstay.
He has played 34 matches this season, including 23 of 27 in Liga, from 41 available in all competitions. Suspended at the weekend against Celta Vigo, a 2-1 win, he was replaced in the starting line-up by Ferland Mendy.
The Frenchman could now start again against City.
Eder Militao, David Alaba, Dani Ceballos and Jude Bellingham are also out of the first leg. Kylian Mbappé is a doubt after returning to Madrid last weekend following treatment in Paris, while Rodrygo, who ruptured the cruciate ligament in his right knee, will miss the rest of the season.
