Andrew Hill, from Newtownards near Belfast, turned his stag do into a pilgrimage to Elland Road, and despite a 0-0 with Brentford it proved unforgettable.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, he had earmarked the trip once his fiancée Holly accepted his proposal, with a Manchester United-supporting friend sorting hospitality for Brentford’s visit on March 21.
It was his first time at Elland Road, though he had previously seen Leeds face AC Milan in Dublin last year. He loved the atmosphere and, despite the goalless draw, said the weekend was still superb.
The group ticked off the Peacock and Moot Hall Arms, with a dash of culture at the Royal Armouries. A hoped-for pint with Stuart Dallas fell through due to punditry, but they linked up with fellow Northern Irish Leeds fans, a support Hill says bridges community divides from West Belfast to pints in O’Neill’s.
Hill declined to enter hospitality in a full Manchester United kit, opting for home colours with a minion hat and a tutu. He left with the table number eight sign for his top table and wants wedding tables named after Leeds legends, a plan Holly has not yet heard.
The wedding is on Saturday, May 16, which coincides with FA Cup final day, so a Wembley honeymoon is off the cards. Holly is keen to visit Elland Road with him next time.
Hill hopes to return within the next six months to a year. He said Leeds are going over to America for friendlies this summer, so he might even persuade his fiancée to catch a game there.
