Italian transfer insiders Gianluca Di Marzio and Fabrizio Romano have both reported that Bayer Leverkusen look set to complete the signing of Miguel Gutiérrez from SSC Napoli for a fee of around €30 million including bonuses, with the Spaniard expected to arrive as a replacement for Alejandro Grimaldo, who has joined Atlético Madrid.

However, speaking to German media on Sunday, Bayer Leverkusen sporting managing director Simon Rolfes insisted that a deal isn't in place yet, although he conceded that an agreement is close.

“We are making progress regarding the position. In the end, it's about finding the best solution. And if that takes one or two days longer, then so be it. There is nothing to announce yet," Rolfes said when asked about the speculation, according to Kicker.

“An agreement is definitely close, but in the end all aspects have to be viewed in the same way by all parties,” he added, hinting that there are still a few details to resolve in negotiations with Napoli.

Should the deal go through, Leverkusen will be signing a player they have been monitoring for some time and whose profile is quite similar to that of Grimaldo.

“If Grimaldo had left last year, Miguel would already have been the top candidate. He is similar to Grimaldo in many aspects," said Rolfes.
