I felt compelled to write this open letter to the Premier League and the Minister for Sport.

This is a reaction to the ongoing situation regarding Alexander Isak and Liverpool.

I feel it captures what a lot of us think and feel regarding the transfer window.

How certain clubs are taking liberties.

Thank you for reading.

An open letter To the Premier League and the Minister for Sport (Stephanie Peacock MP)

‘I am writing as a concerned football supporter to raise an issue that I believe is having a significant and detrimental impact on the integrity of the competition—namely, the role of so-called “transfer insiders” such as Fabrizio Romano in the modern football ecosystem.

While I fully understand the importance of journalism and transparency in the sport, I am increasingly alarmed at how some individuals appear to operate in a way that contributes to the destabilisation of clubs, particularly those outside of the elite tier.

The frequency with which sensitive transfer information is leaked or published—often well before official negotiations are confirmed—creates a media circus that can severely affect team morale, player focus, and club strategy.

More concerning is the growing perception among fans, that these insiders are acting as unofficial mouthpieces for agents and top clubs. Their access to information seems disproportionately skewed toward ‘big’ clubs, and their constant stream of cryptic updates often fuels speculation, pressure, and in some cases what looks suspiciously like tapping-up by proxy. This not only undermines the competitive balance but also questions the fairness and legality of the current transfer system.

I would like to ask the Premier League:

1. What safeguards are in place to prevent agents and clubs from using journalists to illegally approach or influence players under contract at other clubs?

2. Has the league ever investigated whether individuals like self-styled ‘Transfer window specialist’ Fabrizio Romano are receiving direct or indirect compensation from clubs or agents to disseminate specific narratives or leak sensitive transfer activity?

3. What mechanisms exist to hold media figures accountable if their reporting demonstrably disrupts clubs or player relationships during key periods?

Fans deserve a competition that is decided on the pitch, not manipulated behind closed doors by those with privileged media influence and financial incentive. I strongly urge the league to review the role of so-called “transfer gurus” and evaluate whether their access and actions are consistent with the integrity and spirit of the game.

While I fully expect this to be ignored I feel it would be amiss of me not to highlight these issues. I look forward to getting shafted in the next transfer window (and the one after that).
