Éderson, the former Corinthians midfielder now at Atalanta, has been called up by Carlo Ancelotti for Brazil’s 2026 World Cup campaign in the United States, Mexico and Canada, replacing right-back Wesley after a left adductor injury.

The Brazilian federation announced that Wesley was re-assessed on Sunday, an MRI confirmed a muscle injury to his left thigh adductor, and Éderson will join the squad on Monday in the United States. It expressed regret for the setback and said Wesley remains part of the group.

Wesley was withdrawn after 16 minutes of the first half in Saturday’s friendly against Egypt. He requested treatment for pain in his left leg and was attended by Rodrigo Lasmar’s medical team.

Other right-back options on Ancelotti’s pre-list were Paulo Henrique of Vasco and Vitinho of Botafogo, but he chose Éderson. Danilo of Flamengo and Ibañez of Al-Ahli can also cover the position.

The 26-year-old had not been called since May 2025, when Ancelotti named him for qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay. He has three caps and 119 minutes for Brazil.

Éderson played for Corinthians in 2020 and 2021 after joining from Cruzeiro, making 25 appearances and scoring three goals. He was loaned to Fortaleza, then sold to Salernitana for 6.5 million euros, with Corinthians receiving about R$27 million from their 70 per cent stake. He later excelled in Italy with Salernitana and Atalanta.
