San Diego FC winger Anders Dreyer has been named the 2025 MLS Newcomer of the Year, Major League Soccer announced Tuesday, recognizing the Danish star’s outstanding first season in the league.
Dreyer arrived from FC Midtjylland ahead of San Diego’s inaugural campaign and quickly became the face of the expansion club’s attack.

The Danish international registered a staggering 19 goals and 19 assists in his debut season, playing a key role in helping San Diego reach the MLS Cup Playoffs as the number-one seed in the Western Conference.
For Dreyer, the honor caps a season that not only showcased his individual quality but also helped solidify San Diego’s legitimacy as a competitive expansion side.
Dreyer is the first San Diego player in history to earn a year-end award and the first Danish player to earn the Newcomer of the Year honor.
This is the third time in MLS history that the Newcomer of the Year came from an expansion side in their debut season, joining Atlanta United's Miguel Almirón in 2017 and Seattle Sounders' Fredy Montero in 2009.
