The World Cup began on Thursday, and Corinthians midfielder André Carrillo was in the stands for the opening ceremony at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. He attended Mexico's game against South Africa.

According to Meu Timao, the 34-year-old shared Instagram videos capturing the atmosphere inside the stadium, then joined in singing Oye Mi Amor by Mexican group Maná before kick-off.

He also poked fun at rivals Palmeiras, wearing a white Mexico shirt, a colour many Corinthians supporters consider off limits.

The ceremony featured performances from Shakira, Tyla, J Balvin and Burna Boy.

Out of action since late May after the win over Grêmio, Carrillo is on holiday during the club's break. The squad are due back on 25 June for a mid-season camp.

Players will have three weeks to prepare for a friendly against Cascavel on 12 July in Paraná.

Memphis Depay, the club's only World Cup call-up, is not set for a rest, with commitments until at least 25 June. The Netherlands face Japan on Sunday, Sweden on 20 June, then Tunisia on 25 June.
