Andreas Pereira orchestrates Palmeiras surge to go second

Palmeiras thrashed Vitória 5-1 on Wednesday in Barueri to climb from 10th to 2nd in the Brasileirão, with Murilo, Gustavo Gómez, Maurício, Allan and Ramón Sosa on the scoresheet.
In the 24th minute, Murilo glanced in Andreas Pereira's corner to break the deadlock, before Gómez doubled the lead with a close-range finish (28.).
Carlos Miguel then denied Aitor Cantalapiedra with a firm save before the interval, keeping Verdão firmly in control.
Maurício added a third in the fifth minute of first half stoppage time, prodding home after Joaquín Piquerez's delivery.
After the restart, substitute Dudu pulled one back for Leão da Barra (56.). Allan restored the cushion with a crisp strike from distance (63.), and Sosa, on from the bench, curled in a late fifth (80.). Pereira finished with three assists.
Verdão registered 17 attempts and 59.9% possession. Leão da Barra produced nine attempts.
