Andreas Schjelderup has been named Liga Portugal Betclic Young Player of the Month for February after standout displays for Benfica. According to Glorioso 1904, the Norwegian winger collected 21.48% of votes from the league’s head coaches.

Across the month, he started all four league fixtures against Tondela, Alverca, Santa Clara and AFS SAD, totalling 287 minutes.

He scored against Alverca and was named man of the match versus AFS SAD, contributions that underpinned the individual recognition.

The positive run continued in the clássico at Porto on Sunday, eight February, which finished 2-2. The 21-year-old struck Benfica’s first and featured prominently in several attacking moves.

Schjelderup’s progress has been evident this season. José Mourinho halted a potential January exit and introduced specific work to enhance the forward’s output, and the player has steadily earned a bigger role.

So far this campaign he has made 34 appearances for Benfica, 19 in the league, 10 in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal and one in the Taça da Liga, totalling 1,853 minutes, with seven goals and three assists. He is valued at 14 million euros.
