Manchester City Football Club is delighted to confirm that Andrée Jeglertz has agreed to become the new Head Coach of Manchester City Women.
The 53-year-old Swedish coach and former professional player will join the Club from the Denmark women’s national football team after this summer’s Euros.
A defender, Jeglertz played 25 games in the Allsvenskan, Sweden’s top flight, for Malmö FF as well as turning out for IFK Trelleborg, Umeå FC, IFK Hässleholm and Gimonäs CK. He also earned three caps for the Swedish U-21 national team.
Jeglertz has an impressive track record in women’s football. A two-time winner of the Damallsvenskan Manager of the Year while at Umeå, Jeglertz also won the UEFA Women's Cup – later the Champions League - with the team in 2004.
He’d guide Umeå to two more UEFA Women's Cup finals in 2007 and 2008, while also winning four successive league titles and the Swedish Cup before a spell in men’s football in charge of Djurgårdens IF in 2009.
Jeglertz’s first foray into international management would follow with Finland women in 2010 and he’d stay in charge until 2016, helping them qualify for the Euros for only the third time in their history in 2013 after just missing out on a first World Cup appearance two years prior.
Those exploits also saw him named Finnish Manager of the Year in 2012 and, after a brief return to Umeå in 2017 and two years at Linköpings FC back in his native Sweden, he was appointed Denmark manager after the 2023 World Cup.
The Swede will move to the Joie Stadium following the conclusion of this summer's Euros, with the Danes facing Germany, Poland and Sweden in Group C.
Under Jeglertz’s stewardship, Denmark reached the tournament by finishing second behind World Champions Spain in qualifying.
The appointment comes as the Club aims to return to European football and challenge for domestic trophies, as well as building on the investment into the first team – including the new, £10 million purpose-built training facility at the City Football Academy.
Speaking about the move, Jeglertz said: “I’m honoured to be part of this big and great club.
“Manchester City are one of the biggest in the world, but also the way that Therese and Charlotte are presenting the club, what it stands for, what they want from a coach and everything that’s connected to football, there are a lot of things that make me excited about the job.
“I’m extremely excited to meet the players, the staff and of course the fans. I will do everything I can to take this to the next level and continue the journey that has been started, making sure we can play attractive and winning football.”
Manchester City Women Director of Football, Therese Sjogran, said: “Andrée brings a wealth of experience at the top of the game as well as a real hunger to drive Manchester City forward.
"I've seen his work first hand at Umeå, Finland and Linköpings, so can understand why he's already had a lot of success at club level. It's clear he's determined to build on that here at City in the coming years.
“Andrée really impressed us with his attitude and ambition, and the way he sees the game aligns perfectly with our own vision.
“We wish him luck at the Euros this summer with Denmark and are all very excited to see what impact he can make in our bright future.”
Everyone at Manchester City would like to welcome Andrée to the Club and wish him the best of luck during his time at the Joie Stadium.
