Andy Robertson to join Tottenham on free after Liverpool exit

Andy Robertson will join Tottenham after leaving Liverpool as a free agent.

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi said he had long admired the Scottish left-back and that Robertson would add outstanding technical quality, experience and leadership.

Tottenham announced the move on Friday, with his arrival set for 1 July when his Liverpool contract expires. He had revealed his Anfield exit at season’s end after nine years, without naming a destination.

As he remains under contract, he did not feature in the club’s announcement video. The news landed with little warning.

Spurs want the signing to stiffen a back line that struggled last term, finishing 17th with 57 goals conceded, the fourth-worst record in the league. The length of Robertson’s deal has not been disclosed.
