We do not need to go into the nuts and bolts of the current injury situation at Spurs. It has already been covered to high heaven by every man and their dog. Writing about it has nearly been as annoying as the fact they have been unavailable.
Nevertheless, it appears Ange Postecoglou is set to receive a big boost on that front, with a number of players set to return. As per Matt Law; Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie, James Maddison, Brennan Johnson, and Wilson Odobert, are "set to return" to first team action and be at Ange's disposal.
Safe to say, every player there is capable of coming in and making an impact. Generally, Vicario feels the most self explanatory. The form of Udogie before injury was well documented, but he just looked shattered like a number of players do. Not to say he never made mistakes that can't be excused by fatigue, but it definitely made an impact. It is clear to see.
Whilst Pedro Porro does give creativity that others don't, and this is nothing against him - it would be really interesting to see a full back pairing of Djed Spence and Udogie. The Spanish full back has also played more minutes than anyone in the top five leagues, so is in clear need of a rest either way.
In the absence of Maddison, Spurs have definitely missed some creativity and goal threat. There has been a particular burden on the clearly shattered Dejan Kulusevski in his absence. The return of Maddison would allow Ange to give the Swedish international some more rest than he has been allowed till now.
Safe to say that Johnson divides opinion, with plenty criticising his general play outside of goals or assists. Well, his numbers have certainly been missed since he went, whatever you think of him. Spurs have got fewer crosses in his absence, and when they have, have had less goal threat. Two things that he provides.
Then, as of Odobert, we have not seen much of him, but what we have seen, in very brief spells, is 1v1 threat that Spurs have been missing for so long. The idea of him linking up with France U21 team mate Mathys Tel is very exciting.
Hate to finish on a downer, but interesting that Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero were not mentioned. Great players, but availability is the best ability. It is getting pretty tiresome now. That is not to slander either of them, it is just frustration at the situation and how they are barely ever available.
