Ángel Di María, 38, could be set for a surprise Argentina recall as chatter grows over a short-term return.
According to Glorioso 1904, rumours in Argentina suggest the former Benfica winger may be in line to rejoin the national team.
Di María bowed out of the Albiceleste around a year and a half ago, signing off with Copa América glory in a Miami final. With the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada approaching, talk of a comeback has intensified.
His form for Rosario Central is central to the debate. He has four goals and two assists in 10 matches in 2026, and he has not shut the door when pressed. After Saturday’s win over Banfield, he said his stance was unchanged, hinting that Lionel Scaloni is focused on Europe while he remains relaxed in Rosario.
On Monday, claims resurfaced that a plan is already under way, including a possible call-up for World Cup warm-ups. A friendly at the Monumental to bid him farewell before Scaloni’s squad heads to the United States is also being studied.
A place at the World Cup is not ruled out, with suggestions that Scaloni would welcome the chance to use him again. Di María left Benfica last summer to rejoin Rosario Central, where he came through the ranks, and has 11 goals and five assists in 26 outings since that move.
