Angel Gomes will return to OM at the end of the season after his January loan to Wolverhampton.
There had been little suspense since the deal was struck in January. Wolves are bottom of the Premier League and their relegation was confirmed on Monday night, L'ÉEquipe reports.
The 25-year-old endured a disappointing first half of the campaign in Marseille before moving to Wolves, where he played nine league games and one in the FA Cup.
Survival would have triggered a compulsory purchase clause. With that deemed impossible, OM mainly wanted him to prove his worth in England, while Gomes also sought a faint chance of joining Thomas Tuchel's World Cup group.
He arrived on a free in June 2025 and is under contract with OM until June 2028. A summer transfer looks probable for the former Lille player, who has long dreamed of establishing himself in the Premier League.
Alternatively, Habib Beye, or any successor on the Marseille bench, could opt to keep a player who had impressed Roberto De Zerbi, albeit largely on paper.
