Manchester City are closing in on the signature of young goalkeeping talent Max-Edgar Chabot, as per new reports.

The 18-year-old is said to be the latest name across the French youth system that has caught the eye of City’s board, and is set to follow in the footsteps of academy recruits such as Mahamadou Sangare, Hermann Malonga and Mathys Detourbet – all players who have crossed the English channel to join City’s setup in recent months.

Chabot has reportedly turned down a contract extension from his boyhood club Angers SCO in favour of a move to England, amid murmurs of City’s interest in adding the promising talent to their academy ranks.

Report: Max-Edgar Chabot close to joining Manchester City

According to reports from France’s Le Parisien, the teenage goalkeeper has turned down a new contract in a bid to force a move to Manchester City as the board circle around his signature.

Discussions are said to be “on track” to bring the French goalkeeper to Manchester, however official agreements are yet to be formulated.

The French Youth international goalkeeper featured in last year’s FIFA U17s World Cup, and has made several appearances above his age division, including at U19s level and featuring in Angers reserve matches.

It is believed by officials that Chabot will likely continue his development in Manchester City’s famous youth system barring any last minute setbacks.

City have made a statement start to the transfer window with a club record £116 million acquisition of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, with director of football Hugo Viana working to bolster Enzo Maresca’s squad further ahead of the 2026-27 season.
