Another Chelsea defender has unknown injury, international press report

Well, we had a god run…

After an exceptionally “clean” run to start the season, with almost no injury worries to disrupt selection, issues are finally starting to crop up. Enzo Maresca has been pretty blessed so far, with only Romeo Lavia and Malo Gusto from the first team missing any time at all so far.

That’s allowed the coach to pick a very consistent starting XI, plus a totally different team in cup games. It’s worked a treat to far.

But the golden period was always going to come to an end at some point, and it seems like yesterday’s stormy second half against Nottingham Forest is going to cost us.

Not only do we have suspensions for Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella for 5 yellows cards, we also face potential retrospective action against Nicolas Jackson for his slapping of Morata.

Then there’s Levi Colwill and Noni Madueke, who both looked to have picked up minor niggles as they were taken off.

Defender could join growing list of absentees

To compound it all, the French press are reporting that Fofana has also got an injury now – enough to put his participation with France in this international break in doubt.

SportWitness claim that the French national team’s medical staff will check out Fofana and work out what they want to do. He will see the doctor at Clairefontaine today – so clearly whatever it is, it’s pretty minor, or he would have skipped even that small hop across the channel.

From a purely Chelsea perspective, this isn’t the worst time for Fofana to get an injury – thanks to the international break and his suspension, he’s about to have 3 weeks off anyway. But regardless, it’s not what you want when you’ve got a team that’s been building chemistry and momentum, and given his injury record we really don’t want to see him with any issues at all frankly.
