On Tuesday night, Inter Miami’s captain scored a hat-trick against one of the toughest AFCON nations in this World Cup.

By scoring its three goals, Lionel Messi achieved two huge milestones regarding the international tournament, but one has to do with the MLS.

His extraordinary talent is evident; the GOAT himself achieved this remarkable milestone first, setting yet another unprecedented record.

Lionel Messi set a new record at this World Cup

After playing 80 minutes against Algeria, where he showcased a football masterclass. When he was subbed off, the whole stadium went down praising and showering Inter Miami's No. 10 with compliments.

With a hat trick against Algeria, Inter Miami's Lionel Messi became the first active MLS player to score three goals in a World Cup match.

Ahead of the match, there was uncertainty about whether Lionel Messi would start, as the two-time MLS MVP entered the tournament with a minor physical issue. While not a major concern, it was something that couldn’t be ignored.

Despite the reports about his injuries, the GOAT appeared in the lineup and destroyed their first rival.

The opening minutes were unusual, as Messi initially looked uncomfortable against Algeria. However, the world's best player soon found the necessary spaces and made history.

With this being said, Lionel Messi puts the MLS on the map once again. Many argued that Messi was playing in a league that lacked competitiveness and intensity, suggesting that starting him could even be detrimental because he would not be physically prepared for the demands of a World Cup.

However, after the outstanding performances from Inter Miami's No. 10 and Rodrigo De Paul, it’s clear that perceptions of Major League Soccer must be reconsidered.
