Things are pretty bleak at Southampton right now. The Saints were beaten at home by Newcastle on Saturday to extend their winless run in the Premier League to 13 games.
Southampton have won just once since promotion back into the top division and are facing an instant return to the Championship. Their six points from 23 games is the worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign.
A whopping 10 points from safety, goals have been the biggest issue for the Saints this season. Jan Bednarek’s opener against Newcastle was just their 16th scored during the current campaign.
Incredibly, three Premier League players have scored more goals than Southampton this season. Golden Boot frontrunners Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland and Alexander Isak – who netted twice in Newcastle’s 3-1 win at St Mary’s – have all individually scored more goals than the Saints have as a collective.
The change in coach has done little to improve their fortunes in what has been a torrid campaign.
