After protracted negotiations, United agreeing to a reported £55m deal, with £52m guaranteed and another £3m in potential future add-ons.

Despite having been the only one of the six summer signings to have a proper pre-season with his new Newcastle United teammates, Anthony Elanga making a slow start to life at his new club, certainly in the Premier League.

Only four Premier League starts and eight in all competitions, although when I had a look at the stats, I see that the winger has got on the pitch in all 17 games so far, whether starting or off the bench.

Anthony Elanga played well in the Champions League matches against Barcelona and Union S-G. Whilst he also did well as United won 2-0 against Spurs to go through to the last eight of the Carabao Cup, Elanga doing valuable defensive work in that match as he repeatedly tracked the dangerous Djed Spence as he made runs from left-back.

However, fair to say that more was expected of the winger in the early stages of this season, though Anthony Elanga has now told media in Sweden that he is determined to be ready when Eddie Howe gives him his next chance.

Anthony Elanga talking about his new club career with Newcastle United to SVT Sport in Sweden, whilst on international duty:

“In football, things happen quickly.

“You can play one, two games and then start on the bench for ten games in a row.

“So you just have to be ready all the time.

“We have the League Cup, the Champions League, the FA Cup which hasn’t even started yet, then we have the Premier League too.

“So it is important for me to be healthy so the opportunities will come.
