The World Cup 2026 semi-final stage has already been played out and 8 FC Barcelona players, all of them playing for Spain, have made their way to the final, in which they will face Lionel Messi’s Argentina.
The semi-finals saw the elimination of two more Blaugrana players. Jules Kounde’s France was eliminated at the hands of Spain, while Anthony Gordon’s England was eliminated by Argentina last night.
The newly signed Barcelona player scored the only goal for his side, but his strike was not enough as the South Americans came from behind to win the game 2-1, scoring both their goals in the final few minutes of the game.
Although his World Cup journey has now come to an end, this tournament only went on to show why the Blaugranes put their trust in him. The winger scored 1 goal and provided 2 assists in the knock-out stages for England, and as Mundo Deportivo has noted, his value is set to receive a significant boost, only a few weeks after signing for Barcelona, because of these performances.
When the Catalans signed him, he was valued at Transfermarkt at €65 million. The Blaugrana side paid €70 million for him and promised another €10 million in variables. However, following his feats in the World Cup, his value is expected to reach €100 million.
For now, Anthony Gordon will still be reeling from the painful defeat he suffered last night. His goal provided hope for his team and his country of reaching the World Cup final, and maybe lifting the trophy, but this was not to be.
He will start his vacation after playing one more game in the World Cup, against France for the third place, and then will join his new club after around three weeks. Hopefully, he will adapt quickly to Barcelona, and continue with his good performances to win other big trophies in the years to come.
