Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo has assessed his side’s chances of winning a fifth Premier League title in six seasons after a disappointing 2-2 draw with Tottenham on Sunday evening.
Semenyo continued his hot streak in front of goal since joining Manchester City from Bournemouth for £64 million in January, scoring his fourth goal for Pep Guardiola to double his side’s lead in north London on the cusp of half-time – after Rayan Cherki expertly broke the deadlock early on.
The Ghana international was ineligible against Bodo/Glimt and Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League group-stage in the last few weeks owing to squad registration rules but was re-called to the starting XI by Guardiola against Thomas Frank and co.
Despite giving the Blues some breathing room ahead of the interval, Semenyo saw Manchester City throw away their two goal lead in the second-half as Dominic Solanke’s brilliant brace salvaged a much-needed point for struggling Tottenham – in another major blow to City’s title hopes.
City have won just one of their last six Premier League games and after returning to winning ways with a stylish 4-0 triumph over Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday, Arsenal have extended their lead at the top of the table to six points.
The fixture calendar doesn’t get easier for Manchester City, who will be desperate to bounce back against Newcastle in the return leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tie on Wednesday night before a weekend trip to Anfield to face an in-form Liverpool side.
Semenyo has been a silver lining of a very poor January and start to 2026 for Manchester City, who remain in the running for silverware on four fronts in the second half of the season but need to get their act together sooner rather than later – if they are to finish the campaign with any silverware.
Erling Haaland has endured a tough time in front of goal of late but Semenyo’s seamless integration into the Manchester City squad has alleviated much of the goalscoring burden the Norwegian successfully shouldered in the first half of the season.
Speaking to Sky Sports after City’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham on Sunday, Semenyo delivered an honest verdict on where the result leaves his side’s title chances.
“We’ve got more games, 14 to go. We’re six points behind (Arsenal) it’s not the end. We have to keep going,” the Ghana international said.
“Anything can happen. 14 games to go, they might lose a couple and we might win. The dynamic changes and we have to see what happens.”
After scoring in the opening leg against Newcastle at St. James’ Park, Semenyo is expected to retain his place in the starting XI at the Etihad Stadium – though Guardiola could choose to rest his new signing and keep the 26-year-old fresh for Sunday’s must-win game against Liverpool.
