Antonio Conte’s future at Napoli was plunged into doubt when he launched an extraordinary rant following the 2-0 defeat at Bologna last weekend.
The Italian manager raised further eyebrows when it was announced he would not oversee training until next Monday.
Napoli’s assistant head coach Cristian Stellini will lead training sessions in Conte’s absence.
Conte took over as manager of Napoli in June 2024 and led his team to the Serie A title in his debut season.
Things have been challenging for the 56-year-old this term, despite adding nine new players to the squad, including Kevin De Bruyne and Rasmus Hojlund.
Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Bologna left the Blues fourth in the league table, two points behind Inter Milan and Roma.
Conte was furious with his team’s performance and launched one of his trademark rants.
The Italian led Chelsea to the Premier League title in his first season but was dismissed a year later after he clashed with Diego Costa.
He also performed well at Tottenham Hotspur, leading them back into the Champions League after joining them on an 18-month contract in 2021.
He left the London club by mutual consent after 16 months, following a stunning post-match rant at Southampton, where he slammed the club’s hierarchy and called his players ‘selfish’.
Based on previous experiences, Conte may leave Napoli if the club’s fortunes don’t improve soon.
