Benfica’s display in Switzerland fell well short of expectations among the many Benfica fans in the stands, who voiced frustration with Marco Silva’s side at the start of their European campaign. Others chose to applaud the team in a show of support before the return leg.

The backlash centred on Silva, capturing anger at the result and unease over the possible departure of one of the team’s captains.
