According to Glorioso 1904, António Silva has been impressed by Benfica's new contract offer and is expected to respond after his holiday. The 22-year-old centre-back has a renewal proposal running to 2031.

Rui Costa has assured that the defender remains part of the project despite planned squad changes. The club intend to strengthen the back line, and view António Silva as a key figure within the captains' group.

Even so, talks are not straightforward, largely over salary. The player wants to move towards the top of the wage scale, around €2 million net per season, while Benfica seek to keep the offer within their pay structure.

Silva endured a season of reduced use, falling behind team-mates in the defensive pecking order, which created some internal frustration. That context, combined with his omission from the World Cup squad, was a heavy blow.

In 2025/26 he made 41 competitive appearances, 25 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 10 in Liga dos Campeões, four in Taça de Portugal, one in Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. Across 3,118 minutes he scored once and supplied one assist. He is valued at €25 million.
