Álvaro Arbeloa has dismissed the significance of Kylian Mbappé’s social media like linking José Mourinho with Real Madrid.

According to Glorioso 1904, the fuss began when Mbappé liked a post putting Mourinho forward as a possible successor at Real Madrid. The report adds that Spanish media have also suggested the possibility of indirect contacts involving his agent Jorge Mendes and the hierarchy led by Florentino Pérez.

Arbeloa chose to play down the episode and warned against reading too much into the striker’s gesture. He said he neither minded nor cared whether Mbappé gave a like to Mourinho, Julia Roberts or anyone else.

The reaction has put Mourinho back in the spotlight in Spain, with renewed debate over potential changes at Real Madrid.

Mourinho remains under contract with Benfica until 2027, although clauses in the agreement could permit an earlier departure in certain circumstances, which has kept rumours about his future alive.
