Real Madrid manager Alvaro Arbeloa spoke to the media just ahead of his side’s important La Liga trip to Villarreal, addressing a wide range of topics including team selection, player roles, contract situations and his football philosophy.
Arbeloa began by stressing the significance of the match at La Ceramica, a venue traditionally known for being one of the most demanding away trips in Spanish football.
“It’s very important because of the opponent and what it means. It’s three points that give you confidence in one of the most difficult away games.
“We have to give our best,” he began.
He then spoke about using Federico Valverde at right-back, a decision that has raised questions but also delivered positive results.

“All the players have been willing to do it from day one. Valverde hasn’t had any problems.
“He played a great game against Monaco and that’s what I want to see, players who are committed. They are very versatile players.”
Arbeloa also confirmed positive news in attack, revealing that Rodrygo has recovered in time to be included.
“Rodrygo will be in the squad.”
When asked about Vinicius Jr. and his ongoing contract situation, Arbeloa was careful to distance himself from negotiations while making his personal wish clear.
“That’s not up to me. It’s up to Vinicius and the club. My wish is for him to continue making history at Real Madrid.”
On squad planning and the winter transfer window, the coach reiterated his trust in the group he currently has, while also pointing to the academy as a reliable safety net.
“I’ll say it again. I’m very happy with my squad. If we ever need anything, we have a great youth academy.”
Arbeloa was particularly enthusiastic when discussing Jude Bellingham, praising his mentality and leadership.
“It’s up to me to talk about what I’ve experienced. The games I’ve played with him, even in training sessions, have shown me his ability, his technique, his leadership, his character.
“He put in a tremendous effort, he has a winning mentality, he has everything a Real Madrid player needs. I’m delighted with him.”
He also addressed the atmosphere in the dressing room, focusing on unity and willingness to work.

“I try to help the players, I can’t talk about the past, about whether they are happier or less happy than before.
“They are willing to work, they have welcomed me with open arms.”
Finally, Arbeloa welcomed back Brahim Diaz after international duty and summed up his core football values.
“I’m very happy to have him with us. He’s already shown his abilities here, he showed it in the Africa Cup of Nations.
“He can give us a lot, he has great maturity and mentality. He’s willing to help and I’m very happy.”
“Winning is the most important thing here, beyond systems. I want to see the character and mentality from the other day.
“It represents what Madrid is all about, that pulling together as one. Those values are ours. We must never abandon them,” he concluded.
