Archie Gray stars as Tottenham beat Atletico but crash out of the Champions League | OneFootball

Tottenham Hotspur showed resolve to beat Atletico Madrid at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash last night.

Spurs claimed a 3-2 win in London, ultimately crashing out of the competition with their heads held high.

He completed two of his three dribbles and recorded two progressive carries. He won only two out of seven duels but was constantly buzzing about and proved influential.

Journalist Alasdair Gold raved about his performance, saying, “He looks so comfortable at this level, and he was leading the charge from the midfield in the first half.

“His performance was typified by his interception and assist for Xavi Simons’ goal. One of his best performances in a Spurs shirt.

“Even (Marcos) Llorente came over to shake his hand before he left the pitch, for the 20-year-old was excellent.”

The partnership between Gray and Sarr is beginning to look like something Tottenham can lean on.

Their energy, mobility and willingness to take responsibility have given Spurs a level of midfield control that has been sorely missing all season.

Sarr’s ball-winning complements Gray’s composure in possession, while both players cover ground relentlessly. The pairing is built on balance.

For a side that has flirted with disaster throughout an abysmal campaign, that stability can prove decisive.

They have struggled to find the right balance there throughout the season, but Gray and Sarr can prove key to their season.
