Things are not going well at Liverpool right now, and Arne Slot is facing some serious pressure.

The Dutchman won the Premier League at the first time of asking, becoming one of five men ever to complete this feat, but his second season has not gone to plan at all.

After a strong start to the campaign, the Reds suffered an almost complete collapse and found themselves out of the title race by Christmas.

Despite putting up one of the worst runs of form in the club’s history throughout the autumn, things could now be at their worst for Slot’s side.

Liverpool’s mid-season resurgence

Despite winning eight of their first ten matches this season, Liverpool managed to put together the worst run of form the club has seen in over 70 years between September and November, losing nine in a 12-match run.

Following an embarrassing 4-1 home defeat to PSV in the Champions League, Slot did manage to recover slightly heading into the Christmas period, leading the Reds on a 13-game unbeaten run before their 3-2 away loss to Bournemouth on 24 January.

That unbeaten record is deceiving though, Slot’s side drew six of those games.

Liverpool followed up the disappointing loss to Bournemouth with impressive 6-0 and 4-1 wins over Qarabag and Newcastle respectively and put together a decent run of results in February, winning four and losing once, despite poor performances.

The start of March marked a turning point for the Reds though, and the team have been moving backwards since then.

Are things the worst they’ve been under Slot?

March started with an appalling 2-1 defeat to bottom of the league Wolves.

The month also saw Liverpool lose 1-0 in the opening leg of their Champions League tie against Galatasaray and 2-1 to Brighton in the Premier League.

Potentially the worst result of the lot was a 1-1 draw at Anfield with a Tottenham Hotspur side that were perhaps in the worst form in Europe.

Liverpool managed to progress in the FA Cup against Wolves and did beat Galatasaray in the second leg, but after crashing out of the FA Cup in a dismal 4-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday those results seem worthless.

A Champions League quarter-final against PSG awaits, and if Liverpool perform like they did in the second half against Man City they stand absolutely no chance of winning.

It has been widely reported that Slot still has the backing of FSG, and that the head coach believes he can turn things around at Liverpool, but his side seem to be in freefall.
