Inter Milan’s 2-0 victory over Lazio returned Cristian Chivu’s side to the top of Serie A, and once again Lautaro Martínez was at the heart of it.

The captain’s opener set the tone for a disciplined and determined Nerazzurri performance, and his leadership continues shine through.

It was an important win for Inter against the side that derailed their title ambitions last season.

The two teams drew 2-2 in May; a result which effectively sealed the Nerazzurri’s fate as the bridesmaid.

From the moment he found the net early on, Lautaro played with visible intensity, pressing from the front and constantly encouraging his teammates.

“Of course I wanted to shoot on goal,” Lautaro said to DAZN, via FCInterNews.

“It’s true I arrived with a long stride, but the important thing is that it went in and unlocked the match.

“I want to thank all the people who come to the stadium, they always support us. I celebrate every goal in my own way because I love scoring, and when these fans shout your name, you always get chills.”

The Argentine also underlined the power of the crowd in helping the team push through difficult moments.

“For us, the fans are fundamental,” he continued.

“We really missed them, but now that they’re back they always push us forward. They’re truly our extra man, and the opponents feel it too.”

Later, speaking to Inter TV, the Inter captain emphasised how much he values the collective effort behind every win.

“I’m happy because we won – facing teams that move the ball well isn’t easy. We approached the game the right way and that means a lot.

“The group always matters more than the individual, but scoring these goals is still important for my career,” he said, with quotes via FCInterNews.

Lautaro also expressed pride in his role as captain and his determination to maintain high standards.

“I give everything every day for this shirt. I’m proud to wear it and I need to keep going because the journey is still long.

“The secret to playing every match? I always want to defend my teammates on the pitch. Sometimes resting helps, but those are the coach’s decisions. Whenever I play, I give everything.”

With the international break looming and the Derby della Madonnina on the horizon, Lautaro’s focus remains sharp.

“Those of us staying here will work with the coach and staff,” he explained.

“Those going away with their national teams will play and then recover for the derby. It’s an important game for the table and a special match, one that prepares itself.”
