Argentina to face Guatemala in March friendly before World Cup opener against Algeria | OneFootball

Argentina will host Guatemala on 31 March in the FIFA window.

The federation announced the friendly in a post, confirming the fixture, with the stadium to be confirmed.

The match will act as a home farewell before the 2026 World Cup, staged in the United States, Canada and Mexico from 11 June to 19 July.

The Finalissima, the meeting of the Copa América and Euro champions, was suspended because of the war in the Middle East. It had been scheduled for Lusail Iconic Stadium in Qatar.

Spain’s federation proposed staging it in Madrid or in Italy, but Argentina’s FA resisted both options and no agreement was reached.

It will be a second successive window with only one game for Argentina, while most leading nations play two. In November, Lionel Scaloni’s side beat Angola 2-0.

Argentina open their World Cup campaign on 16 June against Algeria, with Austria and Jordan completing Group J.
