According to SuperDepor.com, Argentina’s two planned warm-up matches before their World Cup opener against Algeria in the United States have been cancelled. The AFA is working against the clock to secure replacements.
The world champions face a demanding year, defending their title at the 2026 finals and playing the Finalissima against Spain in March.
The only confirmed fixtures for 2026 are in March, when Lionel Messi and team-mates face Spain in Qatar on 27 March to decide the Finalissima, then the host nation at the same venue on 31 March. The group is expected to spend eight days there.
The 26-man World Cup squad is expected to be announced in late May.
Replacement friendlies are intended for the first 10 days of June, after which the squad will move to Kansas City in the build-up.
In September, Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia had outlined friendlies against Mexico and Honduras before the tournament, plans that have since been dropped.
