An Argentine star can replace Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool.

The Reds have spent the last year searching for a true replacement for their former no.66, and with every passing week, it has become increasingly obvious just how difficult he is to replace.

Very few players in world football can offer what Alexander-Arnold brought to Liverpool from right-back. His passing range, creativity, and ability to control games from deep areas made him one of the most unique players in Europe. Whether it was switching play, breaking defensive lines, or creating chances from nothing, Liverpool’s attack often revolved around his quality in possession.

Conor Bradley has shown real promise and was viewed by many as the natural long-term successor. However, his recurring injury problems have created doubts over whether he can be relied upon consistently across a full season. He still has an important role to play, but Liverpool need more certainty in such a crucial position.

Meanwhile, Jeremie Frimpong remains more of an attacking outlet than a defensively complete full-back. His qualities are clear going forward, but questions remain about whether he can provide the balance Liverpool need defensively.

That is why this summer feels so important for sporting director Richard Hughes.

Liverpool now have the perfect opportunity to finally replace Alexander-Arnold’s and find a genuine long-term player who can do what he did best.

But while the right-back position does need to be addressed, in terms of that creativity and control Alexander-Arnold offered, Liverpool may have to look at another position to bring the same influence at the now Real Madrid star.

Many have touted Adam Wharton as a possible choice to replace Alexander-Arnold's creativity. However, Liverpool may look beyond him with a genius transfer for an Argentine centre-back instead.

After all, Liverpool are still in need of additions in the centre-back department.

There is growing uncertainty around several of the club’s existing defenders. Ibrahima Konate is approaching the final stages of his contract, and with no extension agreed, the possibility of a departure is becoming increasingly real with every passing day.

At the same time, Joe Gomez continues to attract interest from elsewhere. He came close to securing a move to AC Milan last summer, and with his current deal running until 2027, Liverpool could be tempted to sell while his market value remains high.

In order to give Liverpool extra depth rather than having to rely on two young players coming back from injury in Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet, Liverpool could look to bring in someone with more experience.

According to Matteo Moretto, Liverpool are showing 'a lot of interest' in Marcos Senesi recently, with whom contact has already been made by the Reds.

And this is a move that would make so much sense because he is capable of replacing Trent's creativity and build-up.

He has averaged the most progressive passes (14.89 per 90 minutes) in the entire Premier League this season. He's the only centre-back who ranks amongst the top 10 players in the Premier League for open play expected assists (4.59), which is just below Florian Wirtz (4.78).

And he's doing this playing in a deep centre-back role and being the playmaker for Bournemouth.

On a free transfer a player of his experience who Richard Hughes and Arne Slot both know well, the Dutchman coached him at Feyenoord meanwhile the club's sporting director brought him to the Premier League, Senesi just seems like a no brainer.

In the process, he could easily replace what Liverpool have missed in Alexander-Arnold's absence.
