Armed police arrest 19-year-old in Leeds after Huddersfield football pitch shooting

Armed officers arrested a 19-year-old man in Leeds city centre as part of an inquiry into a shooting at a football pitch in Huddersfield.
The arrest unfolded on The Headrow on 14 April in the afternoon, with officers remaining at the scene into the evening. West Yorkshire Police said the suspect, from Huddersfield, was held on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, and remains in custody.
The investigation concerns a firearms discharge on Wednesday, April 8, at a football pitch off Spaines Road in Birkby. The incident happened near the pavilion at the Woodlanders FC football pitches between 8.30pm and 9pm, leaving a 17-year-old with a non life-threatening leg injury.
The Homicide and Major Enquiry Team is progressing multiple lines of enquiry. Detectives are appealing for witnesses who were in the area at the time.
