Arne Slot praises ‘outstanding’ Liverpool star in win over Real Madrid | OneFootball

Arne Slot hailed the “outstanding” performance of Conor Bradley in Liverpool’s win over Real Madrid.

Alexis Mac Allister scored the only goal of the game as the Reds beat the Spanish giants at Anfield in the Champions League.

And the Reds boss picked out the performance of right-back Bradley in particular in helping his side to win the game.

“I said before the game that they have scored 26 goals in La Liga, and Mbappe and Vinicius together have 24 goal contributions,” he told Prime Video Sport after the game.

“So, if you want to win this game, you have to make sure that these two are not on the scoresheet. The whole team defended really well, in the high press and the low block.

“Conor [Bradley] was outstanding. To be up against Vinicius so many times one v one is not for everyone. He did outstanding today.

“I said to the players that the only thing I did not want was a mid block, because those two up front [Vinicius and Mbappe] have deep runs, unbelievable timing and incredible pace, so we either press them really high or sit in a low block. So never give them space, and in the few moments you do, take it away because 24 goal contributions from 26 goals tells you everything you need to know about these two.”

Liverpool have now won back-to-back games following a dismal run of form which saw them lose four league games in a row, and Slot also highlighted his team’s improvements on set pieces.

“It is nicer if you win games than if you lose as a manager,” he said.

“If you lose then it takes all of your time because you so badly want to change it but you also try to be the same manager and person that you are when you are winning. I did the same, told them that with our set piece balance it is really hard to win games of football, open play chance creation was good all season apart from the Villa game, which we won.

“So I tried to tell them what was actually happening instead of all the noise around them. The only thing I can do is tell them my opinion and hope it is strong enough for them to believe me.”
