Arrascaeta to wear Flamengo No 14 again in tribute to Oscar | OneFootball

After 17 months, Arrascaeta will wear Flamengo No 14 on Sunday at 19:30 against Bahia, a tribute to Oscar Schmidt, the club’s basketball idol who died last Friday. According to Globo.com, the number helped cement his status at the club.

He wore No 14 from 2019 to 2024, playing 290 matches with 186 wins, 60 draws and 44 defeats. In that span he scored 73 and provided 89 assists, lifting 13 trophies, becoming the most decorated player in the club’s history.

He debuted on 23 January 2019 in a 1-1 draw with Resende. His first goal arrived in his third game, in a 4-0 win over Cabofriense. Three months later he assisted in a 2-0 win over Vasco to clinch the 2019 Carioca.

In the 2019 Brasileiro he scored a bicycle kick in a 3-0 win over Ceará from a Rafinha cross.

The 2019 Libertadores holds a special place, ending a 38-year wait in the Americas as Flamengo came from behind against River Plate in Lima. Then wearing No 14, he assisted one of Gabigol’s goals in the final.

In the 2022 Copa do Brasil last 16, after a 2-1 first-leg defeat to Atlético-MG, he scored both in a 2-0 win to send Flamengo through. He bid farewell to No 14 on 10 November 2024 with a 1-0 win over Atlético-MG that sealed the Copa do Brasil after a 3-1 first-leg victory in Rio, in which he scored. He had right-knee arthroscopy afterwards and returned in 2025 wearing No 10.
