After five years with Arsenal, academy player Amario Cozier-Duberry left the Gunners for Brighton and Hove Albion in 2024, coming to the end of his contract in north London and opting not to extend it.

Brighton promptly loaned the young winger out to Championship side Blackburn Rovers, but that first season in senior football didn’t go entirely to plan.

An early ankle injury put Cozier-Duberry out of action for around a month between October and November, and he struggled to break into the starting lineup even when he was available again.

The 20-year-old ended that first loan with one goal and no assists in 23 appearances.

Brighton chose to loan Cozier-Duberry out to League One this summer, with the player joining Bolton Wanderers, and the early signs are that he’s in for a much more promising spell in 2025/26.

The England u20 international has already made completed two 90-minute matches in League One, which is two more than he managed in his season in the Championship. And he provided the first assist of his senior career in the second of those appearances, a win over Plymouth Argyle.

But perhaps Cozier-Duberry’s most impactful performance so far was in the League Cup on Wednesday night, as he came on as a substitute against Sheffield Wednesday and scored a fantastic goal from distance in stoppage time to level the tie at 3-3. Sky Sports called it a ‘worldie’.

The youngster went on to convert a penalty in the shootout as well, but two of his teammates saw their efforts saved and Bolton were ultimately eliminated.

Though it was ultimately a disappointing night for Bolton, Cozier-Duberry can feel encouraged by the start to his second loan. He’ll likely be in action again on Saturday, away to Barnsley, now looking for his first goal in League One.
