Arsenal agree £75m fee with Newcastle for Bruno Guimarães | OneFootball

Newcastle United and Arsenal have reached an agreement over the transfer of Bruno Guimarães for £75m.

The Brazilian midfielder will now depart Newcastle’s pre-season training camp in La Manga, Spain, to complete a medical with the Gunners.

There was willingness on Tuesday from both sides to finalise the deal, after Arsenal saw a bid turned down by Newcastle on Monday.

Now, though, it appears that Arsenal have finally got their man.

Following Newcastle’s sale of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur for £100m, the club’s hierarchy had set a similar price tag for their captain.

However, Guimarães’ willingness to leave, combined with work done by intermediaries, has reduced the price.

Furthermore, the Magpies are only set to bank around £67million of the agreed fee, due to Guimarães’ previous club Lyon having a clause entitling them to 20% of the profit.

The impending move further increases Newcastle’s income from player sales this summer, with Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali already having already left for huge figures.

The Magpies will now to look to reinvest quickly, and bring in the experience and quality to their midfield that has been lost with this sale.

Certainly, incoming manager Matthias Jaissle will need reinforcements in his squad.

Newcastle have already spent big on young talent this summer, but must now balance that with proven quality.

As for Arsenal, Guimarães will improve what is already a world class midfield at the Emirates, as the Gunners look to go back-to-back by winning the Premier League title again.
