Arsenal centre-back William Saliba (24) is set for a spell on the sidelines. The France international picked up an ankle injury during the warm-up of the Premier League clash between Liverpool and the Gunners. Saliba had to throw in the towel after only a couple of minutes at Anfield. The 24-year-old was pulled out of Didier Deschamps’ France squad and the latter gave Benjamin Pavard a recall.
Now, L’Equipe reports that Deschamps is not expected to call up Saliba for the October international break either, when Les Bleus will host Azerbaijan and play Iceland away for their 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The outlet understands that the Arsenal centre-back will be out for three to four weeks, which means Saliba will surely miss the Premier League games against Nottingham Forest and Manchester City.
Saliba is also set to miss out on the Gunners’ Champions League opener against Athletic. The Frenchman then faces a race against time to be fit for Arsenal’s Premier League away game against Newcastle United, which is set three weeks from now.
