Arsenal are close to agreeing an £80 million deal for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to The Times journalist Gary Jacob.
Gunners manager Mikel Arteta wants reinforcements in the middle of the park at the Emirates Stadium club.
The North London club have attempted to sign Guimaraes in the past and are now expected to wrap up a deal soon.
Newcastle are preparing for life without the Arsenal target and have been in talks about signing Botafogo midfielder Danilo as his replacement.
The Magpies are also looking for a new manager after Eddie Howe told the club he wants out, paving the way for Guimaraes to leave.
The £80m deal includes add-ons, and an agreement is believed to be on the cards between the Gunners and Newcastle.
It is believed that Arsenal already have personal agreement in place with the 28-year-old.
Guimaraes has told Newcastle he wants to leave and will now get his wish from the look of things.
Signing the Brazilian is a huge boost for the North London club as they prepare for their Premier League title defence next season.
Guimaraes had been scheduled to report to Newcastle training tomorrow ahead of their pre-season camp in Spain next week.
However, it is unknown whether that is still the case as he closes in on an exit.
The Brazilian was given three weeks off following his involvement at the World Cup, and he has played his last game for the Toons from the look of things.
