Gabriel Magalhaes missed the last penalty in Arsenal’s Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday, ending the shootout and crowning the French club champions of the competition.
But to suggest that Gabriel cost Arsenal the chance at the trophy would be disingenuous and incorrect.
The centre-back was outstanding throughout the 120 minutes to even earn Arsenal a shot at penalties, and he’s been one of the club’s best players in 2025/26 to help them to two finals and the Premier League trophy.

So it should be no surprise that Arsenal fans have rallied to Gabriel’s side, with James McNicholas and Nnamdi Onyeagwara reporting for The Athletic that shirt sales for the player went up 350% over the weekend, becoming the team’s top-selling name printed.
At one point, Gabriel’s shirt reportedly doubled any other shirt being sold.
That was in addition to all the support fans showed at the parade on Sunday, with many holding signs with the player’s name and singing his chant.

Gabriel is a fan favourite in north London, and for good reason. He’s the kind of no-nonsense defender that fans of Premier League clubs love, but he’s also good in possession and a massive threat in the opposition penalty area.
Away from the pitch, the centre-back has regularly re-committed to Arsenal, signing contract extensions before many of his teammates do, putting faith in the project and ultimately reaping the reward of Premier League success.
Gabriel is also one of the first to defend Arsenal online, making sure to hit back against anyone mocking the Gunners.
Someone who goes above and beyond in his role, who is loyal, and who backs his club like a fan. That’s about all you can dream of in an Arsenal player.
Anyone can miss a penalty, but very few can match what Gabriel gives to his club.
