Arsenal has reignited their interest in World Cup winner

Arsenal have reignited their interest in Nico Williams as they continue their search for a new winger this summer and could make another attempt to sign the Athletic Club star during the current transfer window.

Williams has been a long-standing target for the Gunners, who have monitored his progress over the past few seasons as he has established himself as one of the leading attacking players in European football.

The Spain international was a key member of the squad that won Euro 2024 and recovered from injury to provide the match-winning assist as Spain defeated Argentina in the World Cup final on Sunday.

Arsenal Renew Williams Pursuit

Williams featured sparingly during the World Cup after entering the tournament with an injury, gradually regaining full fitness as the competition progressed.

By the time of the final, the winger was fit enough to make a decisive contribution, helping Spain secure victory with the assist for the winning goal.

According to Give Me Sport, Arsenal have never lost interest in Williams and are preparing a fresh attempt to sign him during this transfer window following his impressive performances on the international stage.

Release Clause Could Be Key

Arsenal have already sold Leandro Trossard and could also part ways with Gabriel Martinelli this summer, increasing the need for another high-quality option on the left wing.

Williams has therefore emerged as one of the leading candidates to strengthen Mikel Arteta’s attacking options ahead of the new season.

Although the winger has committed his long-term future to Athletic Club, every player in La Liga has a release clause in their contract. Arsenal could activate that clause if they can convince Williams that a move to the Emirates Stadium is the right step for his career.

The coming weeks could determine whether the Gunners are prepared to pursue the deal seriously as they continue reshaping their squad for another title challenge.
