Arsenal have opened talks with Leicester City to sign 16-year-old winger Jeremy Monga, The Standard claims.

The Premier League champions are said to have tracked the teenager for months and discussions are understood to have taken place between the relevant parties. They are now thought to be ready to move for a player who has been breaking records since reaching first-team level.

Monga is due to sign professional terms on his 17th birthday next month. He became the second youngest Premier League player at 15 years and 271 days when he featured against Newcastle the season before last. He is also the youngest scorer in Championship history after netting against Preston last August at 16 years and 37 days.

Leicester could command between £10m and £15m. That would be a record fee for a League One club, potentially beating the £11m Everton paid Charlton Athletic for Ademola Lookman in 2017.

Manchester City and Manchester United were previously credited with interest, though Arsenal now appear to have made their move. It is the second time this summer that a Premier League club has been reported to have opened talks over Monga, with United said to have done so and to be leading the race less than a month ago.
