Martin Keown appeared to acknowledge directly to Noni Madueke that he had been wrong in his initial assessment of the winger, having once believed him to be too selfish in his play.
Madueke has made a bright start to life at Arsenal, silencing many critics who doubted the move. Despite being only four games into the season, he has already demonstrated his value, stepping up impressively in the absence of Bukayo Saka. His early form has gone some way towards changing opinions, both from pundits and sections of the Arsenal support.
Before his transfer was completed, Madueke was not universally welcomed by supporters. In fact, a section of Arsenal fans expressed disapproval of the proposed deal, with some even launching a petition against the move. Their frustration stemmed from repeated signings from Chelsea, many of which they considered uninspiring or unsuccessful.
Against this backdrop, Madueke’s arrival was met with scepticism, and he faced the challenge of proving his worth almost immediately. However, his early performances have provided a compelling response. With pace, skill and a willingness to contribute to the team’s attacking rhythm, he has already begun to justify the manager’s decision to pursue his signature.

Following Arsenal’s victory over Nottingham Forest, Madueke was interviewed by Martin Keown, who acknowledged the winger’s evolution in style. As quoted by Goal, Keown remarked:
“Noni, have you taken your game to another level? Because you look more collective. I was worried about you when you came. Because I thought sometimes you can be a little bit selfish. But now, you seem to have got really good balance to your play. The decisions you’re making have been outstanding…”
Keown’s admission reflects a wider shift in perception. What was once seen as selfishness is now being recognised as maturity and balance in decision-making. Madueke’s ability to adapt and refine his game has not only won over sceptics but also highlighted his potential to be an important asset for Arsenal in the months ahead.
While it remains early in the season, Madueke’s performances suggest that he could develop into a key figure for the club. His willingness to embrace responsibility and prove doubters wrong shows both resilience and determination, qualities that bode well for his future under Mikel Arteta.
