A new injury concern ahead of a huge Champions League trip

Arsenal are preparing for the biggest game of their season as they look to finish the job against Real Madrid and reach the Champions League semi-finals.

A stunning first-leg victory saw the squad came away unscathed, despite Bukayo Saka and two-goal hero Declan Rice limping off, but Ben White has since picked up a knock in training and then both Thomas Partey and Jorginho were forced off against Brentford.

In more surprising news, Kai Havertz may not be ruled out for the season after all.

With that in mind, here’s a look at the latest Arsenal injury news.

Ben White missed Arsenal’s home clash with Brentford after picking up a fresh injury in training ahead of the game.

Mikel Arteta confirmed before the game that White felt the issue after training on Friday and was not able to make the squad for the game on Saturday.

“Ben White couldn’t be in the squad because he felt something again post-training yesterday, so that limits the solutions we have.”

Potential return date: Unknown

Thomas Partey

Thomas Partey is a doubt for the second leg against Real Madrid after being forced off against Brentford.

The versatile midfielder, who was filling in at right-back due to the absent Ben White, had scored a fine opener only to soon after collapse to the floor and signal to come off.

It appeared unclear what caused the issue, but Partey was properly substituted.

Speaking after the game, Arteta said of Partey: “We didn’t expect the issue with Thomas that we had to take him out. He felt something so we didn’t want to take any risks.

“We don’t know [the diagnosis], I haven’t spoken to the doctors yet. So they will check him now and see how he is.”

Jorginho

Jorginho is set to be assessed after being forced off against Brentford with possible bruised ribs, or worse.

The midfielder could not continue, despite Arsenal having used all five substitutes, during the 1-1 draw on Saturday, which was alarming to Arteta.

"He said he could not breathe properly, so it could be an issue with one of the ribs,” he told Premier League Productions.

“It's strange because if he can't carry on, that means that that is something significant, I think."

Potential return date: Unknown

Jurrien Timber

Arsenal will also be monitoring the fitness of Jurrien Timber, who was unable to start the game against the Bees but did manage to play 20 minutes.

Arteta was more vague on Timber’s fitness, simply telling reporters that he “wasn’t ready to start the game either.”

It is understood to not be a serious issue and Timber remains in contention to face Real Madrid.

Riccardo Calafiori

Riccardo Calafiori’s injury-hit first season as an Arsenal player has continued.

Riccardo Calafiori is “progressing really well” after suffering a knee injury while playing for Italy. The defender’s left knee appeared to buckle under him during Italy’s Nations League quarter-final defeat to Germany and he was released from their camp shortly after.

Arteta initially said the defender is facing “weeks” out, and remains reluctant to give a timeline for a return, but is positive over the player’s rehabilition.

He said on Friday: “I think to give you a timeline is difficult because he needs to step up, especially having more people around and how he reacts to that. But he is in a good place I think.”

Potential return date: May 2025

Gabriel

Arsenal have confirmed Gabriel will miss the rest of the season after surgery on a hamstring injury sustained during their win over Fulham earlier in April.

An Arsenal statement read: “Further to being substituted during our match against Fulham on Tuesday, we can confirm that Gabriel Magalhaes has sustained a hamstring injury which requires surgery.

“Gabi will undergo a surgical repair procedure to his hamstring in the coming days, and immediately begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme, with the aim to be ready for the start of next season.”

Injured: Arsenal star Kai Havertz

Kai Havertz

Kai Havertz was expected to be ruled out for the rest of the season, but there is now hope that he could get back on the pitch next month.

The German has been out with a hamstring injury since the start of February and had to undergo surgery, with the club confirming at the time that his recovery was “expected to extend into pre-season preparations for next season, but now Arteta has opened the door for possible minutes before the season ends.

“Let’s see,” he said. “Every injury isn’t the same. “The mindset of those two though is very similar. Great injury history, great work ethic, desperate to get back playing as quick as possible - and a great medical staff as well to look after them.

“So hopefully we can have him [before the end of the season], but let’s wait. Once you get to the last stage of that rehab, you can understand better how close or far you are to make that next step.”

Potential return date: Summer 2025

Takehiro Tomiyasu

Takehiro Tomiyasu has mustered only six minutes this season, which came way back in October against Southampton.

Injury setbacks have derailed his progress all season and knee surgery in February has ruled him out for the rest of the campaign.

Later that month, the Japan international posted an Instagram message reading: “I’ve had a surgery on my knee few days ago and I’ve already started my rehab to do what I love the most again.

“It has been the toughest period in my career for sure and it carries on a bit more but I won’t give up. Thank you for your support and see you again.”

Potential return date: Summer 2025

Gabriel Jesus

Striker Gabriel Jesus is another to have struggled with injury problems throughout his time at Arsenal.

In January, Jesus suffered a serious knee injury and has since undergone surgery. Due to that, his exact return date remains unclear but he’s not expected back for many months.

Potential return date: Late 2025
